Northwestern College (NC) is now a Wi-Fi hot spot. NC successfully deployed a wireless network across all three campuses: Bridgeview, Chicago, and Naperville. Any Wi-Fi enabled device such as a laptop, a mobile phone, or PDA can connect to the Internet for free. Students, staff, faculty, and visitors now have the freedom and flexibility to access websites, perform research, and send/receive emails from anywhere on campus.
With all the technology advancements over the past few years, a majority of college students, mainly the Millenials who comprise generation Y, expect to have a wireless connection when they are on campus.
Lawrence W. Schumacher, President of Northwestern College, believes that the Millennials are incredibly tech-savvy and can offer insight into the electronic world to which they are so accustomed. "The Millennial Generation is the portion of the population that has never lived without computers; those who, because of Internet access, have had the world at their fingertips since childhood. They believe that 'chatting' is a written form of communication, and 'social networking' is something that can be done while sitting alone at a computer. These Millennials have matured in a high-speed, digital world of instant gratification and interconnectedness. They communicate electronically, using media with which they are exceedingly comfortable."
The College is continuously trying to stay up-to-date with the latest technology and little-by-little we plan to move ahead and provide whatever we can to our students and employees.
