Four specialized fields exist within the administrative assisting program at Northwestern College. Executive administrative assistants support the top-ranking individuals in an organization and assume complex responsibilities. Information processing administrative assistants concentrate heavily on computer technology-related functions such as databases and accounting systems. Medical administrative assistants transcribe dictation, prepare correspondence, and assist physicians or other medical staff with reports, speeches, articles, medical histories, and conference proceedings. Legal administrative assistants prepare correspondence and legal documents such as summonses, motions, subpoenas, and responses, as well as verify facts and help with research under the supervision of attorneys and paralegals.
Administrative Assisting is one of the largest fields of employment in the United States and people working in this occupation hold positions in almost every industry. Organizations with the highest concentration of Administrative Assistants include corporate offices, government offices, legal and medical offices and schools.
