Coding Specialists are employed in medical offices, medical insurance companies, sports medicine clinics, speech therapy practices, outpatient laboratories, digital imaging facilities, freestanding surgical centers, occupational medicine clinics, and home health agencies.

The tuition and fees cost for a student starting the Coding Specialist Certificate program as of the 2011-2012 academic year is estimated at $19,105, based upon current tuition rates. During the 2010-2011 Academic Year, thirteen part-time students graduated from the Coding Specialist certificate program. Of these students, none graduated on-time as defined in the Northwestern College catalog. Certificate programs are built for part-time students; however, the normal graduation rate is based only on full-time attendance.
